The names, titles, and organizations — defined without spin.
Duchess of Sussex
The title Meghan Markle has held since her marriage on 19 May 2018. She retains it; the 2020 agreement concerned the HRH style, not the dukedom. See Titles & Styles.
Duke of Sussex
Prince Harry’s senior title, conferred on the wedding day. The couple are “the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
HRH (His/Her Royal Highness)
The style denoting senior working royals. In January 2020 the couple agreed they would no longer use the HRH styles after stepping back.
Letters Patent (1917)
George V’s 1917 Letters Patent governing which royals are princes and princesses. After Charles III’s accession in September 2022, Archie and Lilibet became entitled as grandchildren of the monarch; “Prince Archie” and “Princess Lilibet” were first used on the couple’s site in March 2023.
Archewell
The couple’s organization, named for the Greek word arche (source of action) and their son Archie. Announced April 2020; comprises the nonprofit Archewell Foundation and the media labels Archewell Productions and Archewell Audio.
Archewell Foundation
The couple’s U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit, focused on community building, mental health, and responsible technology. Tax-exempt status was granted in 2021, per reporting.
Archewell Audio
The couple’s podcast label; partnered with Spotify from December 2020 until the partnership ended by mutual agreement in June 2023.
Archewell Productions
The couple’s production label; partnered with Netflix from September 2020.
Sussex Royal
The couple’s former brand and Instagram handle (@sussexroyal), retired in 2020 as part of the stepping-back agreement, which barred use of the word “Royal” in their ventures.
Suits
The USA Network legal drama (2011–2019) on which Markle played Rachel Zane for seven seasons.
Rachel Zane
Markle’s signature role: a brilliant paralegal (later attorney) on Suits, appearing in 108 episodes across seven seasons (2011–2017).
USA Network
The American cable channel that aired Suits.
The Tig
Markle’s lifestyle website (May 2014–April 2017), covering food, travel, fashion, and interviews. Named after Tignanello wine.
Tignanello
The Tuscan red wine whose nickname, “Tig,” gave her website its name — the story goes that tasting it was a moment of understanding what people mean by a “grown-up” palate.
UN Women
The United Nations entity for gender equality. Markle served from 2014 as an Advocate for Political Participation and Leadership and addressed its Beijing+20 anniversary event in March 2015.
World Vision
The Christian relief charity for which Markle served as a Global Ambassador (from 2016), traveling to Rwanda for clean-water work and to India on girls’ education.
Invictus Games
The international adaptive-sport competition for wounded service personnel, founded by Prince Harry in 2014. Markle’s first joint public appearance with Harry was at the 2017 Toronto games.
Smart Works
The UK charity providing interview clothing and coaching to unemployed women, one of her four 2019 patronages.
The Smart Set
Her September 2019 Smart Works capsule collection — five workwear pieces with Jigsaw, John Lewis & Partners, Marks & Spencer, and Misha Nonoo; one item donated to Smart Works for each piece sold. It sold out.
Mayhew
The London animal-welfare charity, one of her four 2019 patronages; she had long been publicly associated with rescue-dog advocacy.
National Theatre
One of her four 2019 patronages — a natural fit for a former actress.
Association of Commonwealth Universities
One of her four 2019 patronages, connecting to her own university background.
Queen’s Commonwealth Trust
The youth-focused Commonwealth charity of which she became vice-president in 2019.
Hubb Community Kitchen
The community kitchen at London’s Al Manaar mosque, founded by women after the Grenfell Tower fire; the beneficiary of her 2018 cookbook project.
Together: Our Community Kitchen
The September 2018 cookbook supporting the Hubb Community Kitchen, with a foreword by Markle — her first royal charitable project.
Forces for Change
The September 2019 issue of British Vogue, guest-edited by Markle, featuring fifteen women “forces for change” on the cover.

Her August 2021 40th-birthday initiative asking 40 friends to donate 40 minutes of mentorship to women re-entering the workforce.

Her lifestyle brand, launched 2025 (announced as American Riviera Orchard in 2024, renamed As Ever in February 2025), selling jams, teas, and home goods.
The Bench
Her children’s book (June 2021), illustrated by Christian Robinson, about father-son bonds — debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times children’s picture-book bestseller list, per reporting.
Frogmore Cottage
The Windsor residence renovated for the couple with Sovereign Grant funds; under the January 2020 agreement they repaid the public money spent on it.
Sandringham summit
The 13 January 2020 family meeting at Sandringham that settled the terms of the couple’s new arrangement.
