The Crew’s Mess
The fan community — fictional waters, real friendships.
They call themselves the Crew — the fans who gathered around two words (“Blue Sailor”) and built an ocean. Here’s where they meet, what they make, and how to sign on.
Gatherings
Shanty Night, first Friday monthly
Fans gather (online and in port cities) to sing the Second Dawn’s shanties — including the originals from this site and new verses anyone brings. Newcomers are handed a lyric sheet and a tin mug. No one is allowed to be embarrassed.
The Lantern-Isle Regatta (annual)
A real-world sailing regatta inspired by the fictional isles — small boats, blue sail edging encouraged, brass polish optional. The trophy is a brass compass; the real prize is the sunrise start.
Dawn Watch Club
Members greet the sunrise on the first Sunday of each month, wherever they are, with tea — and post a photo. Martin would approve. (He approves of most things involving tea and sunrises.)
Fan works
- Fan fiction: the shared logbook — hundreds of “lost log entries” in Martin’s voice.
- Fan art: the Gallery shows this site’s house style; fans draw their own Martins too.
- Charts: competing fan maps of the Blue Seas. No two agree on the Glass Calm. This is considered correct.
- Music: full choral arrangements of “Eleven Days of Glass” exist. Bring tissues.
Sign on
There’s no membership card — just show up. Bring a verse, a knot, or a story about the sea. The Crew’s rule, borrowed from the captain: “Feed the cat first. The rest can wait its turn.”
