The Syndicate
La Famiglia Squamata — the Scaled Syndicate. One Don, one table, one Code, and a crest with a coiled scale at its heart.
The Scaled Syndicate is fan-made world-building for an original fictional character. It is not a real organization and describes no real-world group.
Structure
The family is organized the way old families always are: simply, and from the top.
| Chair | Holder | Role |
|---|---|---|
| The Don | Don Salvatore | Final word on everything |
| Consigliere | Frankie Fossil | Counsel; the only voice that can say “sit down” to the Don |
| The books | The Professor | Money in, money accounted for |
| The docks | Silas | Bone Harbor and everything that floats |
| The door | Big Al | The Scale, and the peace of it |
| The wheel | Joey Two-Claws | The Don’s car, and the family’s errands |
| The stage | Lucy “Songbird” | Morale, which the Don considers logistics |
Below the chairs sit the made dinosaurs of the five boroughs — sworn, tattooed with the small scale-mark behind the jaw, and bound by the Code.
The crest
A coiled scale in gold on charcoal, ringed by an art-deco sunburst: the scale for the family name, the coil for the long memory (the tar pits remember every footprint), the sunburst for Fossil Bay’s marquee lights. It appears on the medallion the Don never removes, on the door of the Copper Scale, and — once, memorably — projected onto the courthouse during the Tar Pits truce negotiations. Nobody claimed responsibility.
Customs
- Sunday dinner at the long table. Attendance is not optional; appetite is.
- The making ceremony: the Code read aloud, the medallion touched, the words “family first, fossils second.”
- The sit-down: disputes between crews are heard at the Scale, all parties fed first. No one negotiates hungry — house rule.
- The ledger: every favor recorded, every debt honored. The Professor’s handwriting is the family’s scripture.
