Friends & Neighbors
Fast friends, literally.
The DashDash crew
- Waffle Wendy (waffle) — dispatcher, stopwatch legend, the only person who can make Dash sit still (by giving him three deliveries at once). Hired him mid-sprint; has never regretted it for more than a minute at a time.
- Pretzel Pete (pretzel) — veteran runner, Dash's first trainer, and the only one allowed to say "slow down" (Dash ignores him fondly). Retired from racing; undefeated in storytelling.
- Muffin Max (muffin) — the depot mechanic. Keeps the delivery carts rolling and Dash's sneakers resoled. Claims Dash goes through soles "like the city goes through napkins."
- The Rookies — every new runner gets the Dash training: the corkscrew lecture, the double-knot drill, and the speech. ("The package comes first. Even before the jukebox.")
The Starlight Diner
- Dot the Diner (lasagna sheet) — owner of the Starlight; calls Dash "hon" and has his usual ready before he sits down. (He never sits down. She has it ready anyway.)
- The Window Booth — not a person, but basically family. Dash's office, clubhouse, and thinking spot. The milkshake there spins eternally.
Fellow Macaronis stars
- Whole Wheat Willie — the jazz MC. Their team-up ("The Midnight Run") is legend: eleven minutes across the city, one perfect entrance. Dash eats free at the Golden Grain forever. (Fast, though. It's his whole thing.)
- Rasta Pasta — the beach MC. Dash runs Rasta's festival supply route; Rasta repays him in jerk-spiced everything and the city's chillest hangout. "Dash fast, Rasta slow," Rasta says. "Together: perfect timing."
How Dash treats people
Dash treats everyone like a delivery: precious cargo, handle with care, arrive with a grin. He remembers every regular's order, every rookie's name, and every shortcut — but never where he left his own cap. (It's backwards. It's always backwards.)
