Pond etiquette
The pond runs on kindness and low volume. Learn the ways.
The laws
- Never wake a napper. The oldest law. No exceptions, including emergencies (there are no emergencies).
- Ripple gently. Enter water like you're apologizing to it.
- Share the rind. The best pieces go to the companions.
- Keep voices low. The pond amplifies; whispering is a courtesy and a strategy.
- Leave lotus beds as found. They were perfect before you arrived.
- No splashing contests. This is stated without further comment.
For visitors
New to the Big Pond? Announce yourself with a quiet ripple, pick a spot on the bank, and do nothing for at least twenty minutes. You'll be a local by lunch. Probably.
