Glossary

The vocabulary of a fictional universe. Every term below is invented for the StarTeam concept — none of it describes the real world.

Auralis, CSS

The StarTeam’s ship: a decommissioned Concord long-range courier, rebuilt over eighteen months by Bram Solis into something the Concord’s designers can’t fully explain. Slipstream drive, halo-shield projector, resonance-charging cradle. Home to six crew and one AI.

Azure Belt

The fictional star cluster containing Meridian Prime and the Meridian starborn colonies. Named for the blue-giant-rich stellar population that gives the region its characteristic light.

Belt Storm (CY 194)

A fictional stellar flare event that overwhelmed Meridian Prime’s shielding for eleven minutes. Twelve-year-old Adrian Halden absorbed the breach flare, shielding hundreds — the first recorded full-spectrum resonance event.

Call sign “Comet”

Halden’s operational call sign, earned for the way he moves through a fight: fast, bright, and impossible to intercept. Used by the crew more often than his actual name.

Cinder Drift

A debris field in the Rimward Marches; site of the CY 209 colony-ship breakup where Halden held a collapsing docking spar for forty minutes and suffered his first major flareburn.

Concord, Galactic

The fictional interstellar polity the StarTeam serves: a council of forty systems bound by the Concord Charter. Bureaucratic, well-meaning, and chronically underestimating the StarTeam.

Concord Year (CY)

The fictional in-world calendar. Halden was born in CY 182; the StarTeam was founded in CY 214; the “present day” of the lore is CY 240. These dates correspond to no real-world dates.

Flareburn

The cost of overusing stellar resonance: the stored starlight turns inward and scorches the user’s nervous system. Symptoms include flickering glow, tremors, and blackouts. No shortcut treatment exists in the lore.

Founding Six

Halden, Lyra Vane, Bram Solis, Sera Quinn, Dax Morr, and Una Faye — the six signatories of the StarTeam’s CY 214 founding charter.

Full-spectrum resonance event

In-world term for what happened to Halden during the Belt Storm: his body stopped merely absorbing starlight and began storing it at extreme capacity.

Ghost

Dax Morr’s call sign — a reference to his officially-nonexistent status in Concord records.

Halo-shield projector

Defensive system aboard the Auralis: a shaped energy barrier Solis built from decommissioned planetary shield components. Distinctive blue-white shimmer.

Halden, Adrian

Fictional blue-skinned starborn hero from Meridian Prime; field lead of the StarTeam; call sign “Comet.” The subject of this fan reference.

Helios Relay

A deep-space relay station; site of the CY 231 rescue where Halden carried forty-seven civilians out of the collapsing core ring. Now a standard case study in Concord training manuals.

Hollow, the

A fictional rogue AI antagonist: a fragmented machine intelligence that subverts infrastructure world by world. Became Halden’s personal antagonist after the CY 234 contact, when it offered him the Lost Fleet’s location for the Auralis’s slipstream core — and he refused.

Hollow Crown

Warlord Vex Marrow’s corsair flagship; site of Halden’s CY 228 duel with Marrow.

Kessler Belt

A patrol zone where, in CY 211, racer-pilot Lyra Vane saved Halden’s gunship while flying under a false transponder — the origin of the crew’s oldest debt.

Lost Meridian Fleet

Colony-ships that left the Azure Belt generations ago and never arrived. Halden’s private, unauthorized, lifelong mission: find them and bring them home.

Lumen

The Auralis’s shipboard AI — navigation, systems, and holder of Halden’s flareburn standing orders. Treated by the crew as its seventh member.

Meridian Gambit (CY 238)

Halden’s deliberate controlled overload of his own resonance to burn out the Hollow’s primary relay nexus — the act that fragmented the Hollow’s network and left Halden with permanent damage.

Meridian Prime

The vast orbital colony ring around the blue giant star Meridian; Halden’s birthplace. Home of the engineered starborn.

Nova pulse

Halden’s signature release of stored starlight as a directed kinetic burst — variable yield, overwhelming force, zero fatalities by design.

Pale Horizon

Independent smuggler ship captained by Jessa Rook; uneasy ally of the StarTeam since the CY 221 incident.

Quiet War (CY 236–239)

A three-year shadow conflict in the lore: the Hollow subverting Concord infrastructure while the StarTeam raced collapses they couldn’t publicly explain.

Resonance-charging cradle

A Solis-built system aboard the Auralis that accelerates Halden’s starlight recharge — essentially a focused stellar lamp tuned to starborn biology.

Resonance sight

Halden’s ability to read stellar radiation gradients — seeing energy flows, power conduits, and shield weak points. Fails through heavy shielding; causes migraines with prolonged use.

Slipstream drive

The Auralis’s faster-than-light drive — a Solis-rebuilt unit of unusual efficiency and equally unusual maintenance requirements.

Starborn

The engineered descendants of Meridian Prime’s founders: cobalt-blue skin that absorbs stellar radiation, dark hair, light-assisted metabolism. Halden is the most resonant starborn on record — in the lore.

Starlance

Halden’s sidearm: a compact directed-energy weapon, rarely used — he prefers the nova pulse. Mostly carried because regulations require something in the holster.

StarTeam

The fictional six-person rapid-response peacekeeping unit founded in CY 214 under Marshal Ilya Voss’s charter, with Halden as field lead.

Stellar resonance

The in-world phenomenon underlying Halden’s abilities: absorption, storage, and release of stellar radiation through starborn physiology.

Vex Marrow

Fictional warlord of the Void Corsairs; Halden’s great rival since the CY 228 campaign. Escaped the duel aboard the Hollow Crown; still at large in the lore’s present day.

Void Corsairs

The fictional pirate confederation led by Vex Marrow; the StarTeam’s most frequent conventional adversary.
