Glossary
River words and lore words. Real whitewater terms are defined factually; Elementria terms are fan-made fiction and marked as such.
Eddy
A real river feature: a pocket of calm water behind an obstacle, where the current flows upstream. Paddlers rest in eddies; Whit's friend Old Eddy is named for one. (Real term.)
Hydraulic
A real river feature: water pouring over a submerged ledge and recirculating back upstream — a "hole" that can trap boats. In fan lore, the Split Rock hydraulic is Whit's favorite sparring partner. (Real term.)
Standing wave
A real river feature: a wave that stays in one place while water rushes through it, formed over a submerged rock. Whit surfs them; the best ones are on the Foamfall. (Real term.)
Plunge pool
A real river feature: the deep pool at the base of a waterfall, carved by falling water. Whit was born in the Great Falls' plunge pool. (Real term.)
Confluence
A real river feature: where two rivers meet and join. Elementria's Great Confluence joins five. (Real term.)
Rapids spirit
Fan-made A living current: an Elementria spirit made of churning whitewater. Fast, loud, allergic to stillness. Whit is one.
Foam-form
Fan-made Whit's loosened state — pure spray and foam. See Abilities.
The Quiet Minute
Fan-made Old Eddy's lesson: sixty seconds of perfect stillness in the Quiet Reach. Whit's hardest-won ability.
The Confluence Call
Fan-made The one-time power that broke Damstone's dam. See Abilities and Timeline.
Silt imp
Fan-made Damstone's small muddy hench-spirits. Natural predator: the spray burst.
Glass eye
Fan-made River slang for a perfect standing wave — water rushing through a wave that never moves. Whit's favorite ride.
Flood festival
Fan-made The spring gathering at the Great Confluence. Whit opens it with a ceremonial spray burst, by tradition and by popular demand.
