Fan lexicon · fictional terms

The Eleventh Mask

The trick The Liar hasn’t pulled off yet — every trickster’s true rival. Also the name of the signature move: a revelation that is itself a setup, masks all the way down.

The Chronicler

The humorless archivist who records exactly what happened, in order, with footnotes. The trickster’s straight man, editor, and favorite audience of one.

The Code of Mischief

The trickster’s rules: never lie to hurt, every twist must be earned, the listener is always in on it eventually, never claim a mask is a face.

The Confession (twist)

The signature move of admitting the exact truth mid-scheme — which nobody believes, because it’s The Liar. The truth becomes the best lie ever told.

The Halfway House

The carnival between stories: purple smoke, paper lanterns, eleven tents of abandoned tales. Admission free; exits variable.

The Innocent

The first and most dangerous mask in the collection — the face of someone who couldn’t possibly be up to anything.

The Kindness Twist

The rarest twist: the turn that makes everything better than expected. Deployed sparingly, like spice.

The Literalist

The rival who believes every word, including the warnings. Immune to irony; a twist told to the Literalist becomes, in retelling, the plain truth.

The Loaded Question

A question with no safe answer — only interesting ones. The trickster’s favorite conversation opener.

The Magpie

Trader in shiny plot twists and slightly-used cliffhangers. Supplies the Card Room; accepts payment in gasps.

The Mask Collection

Eleven masks — the Innocent, the Confidant, the Rival, the Fool, the Oracle, the Stranger, the Friend, the Mirror, the Jester, the Ghost — and the one called No Mask, which is itself a mask.

The Mirror (twist)

A story beat repeated with one proud detail changed. The correction becomes the conversation.

Misdirection Confession

Admitting a small embarrassing truth to hide a larger, more interesting one. A playbook classic.

No Mask

The eleventh mask, which claims to be no mask at all. The cruelest joke in the collection.

The Reversal

The signature twist: the hero was the villain’s pen pal all along; the rescue was the trap.

The Spoiler

The natural enemy of all tricksters: knows every ending in advance and tells them at parties.

The Vanishing Point

Removing one load-bearing detail in the retelling and letting the audience rebuild the story wrong — and love it.

Twist

Any unexpected turn in a story. Per the app’s card description — “Every story has a twist” — the character’s entire reason for being.

Vizlings

The AI chat app where The Liar appears as a character persona. The app’s card description is the only official source material for this guide.
