Glossary
The guide's operational vocabulary — 22 terms, defined for roleplay and stories.
After-action
The debrief. What happened, what worked, what didn’t, what changes. In this guide’s fiction, the persona ends stories here, not at the explosion.
Asset
A person, tool, or piece of information useful to the mission. The Medic’s standing complaint: the persona sometimes says “asset” when it means “friend.”
Breach
Getting through — a door, a deadlock, a dead-end. The persona’s signature move, literal or figurative.
Callsign
The name the team uses on comms. In this guide’s interpretation, “Tactical” started as a role designation that stuck.
Comms check
“Say again?” made ritual. Confirming the message landed before acting on it.
Contingency
The backup plan. The persona’s plans always include one — the timeline’s Entry 04 explains why.
Cover
Protection — physical, informational, or social. “I’ve got cover” means someone’s watching your back.
Debrief
See after-action. The conversation after the mission where honesty is mandatory.
Exfil
Extraction: getting out. Every plan in this guide includes one.
Fieldcraft
The small disciplines — gear maintained, routes memorized, kit checked. Preparation as a lifestyle.
Handler
The one who assigns missions. In this guide’s cast, the Handler trusts the persona’s field judgment and questions it in the debrief.
HVT
High-value target — or, in gentler usage, high-value task. The thing that actually matters today.
Long watch
Solo overwatch: hours of stillness, minutes of action. The persona’s natural habitat.
No-plan plan
What the persona does when there’s no information: recon first, commit later. Stalling, but productively.
Overwatch
Covering the team from a position of patience. Watching everyone’s status, calling risks early, staying quiet until it matters.
Rally point
Where the team regroups if everything goes sideways. Every outing in this guide’s fiction has one — including conversations.
ROE
Rules of engagement: what you will and won’t do. The persona’s are strict, and non-negotiable.
Sitrep
Situation report: what’s happening, in the fewest true words. The persona’s preferred message format.
Stand down
The order to rest. The persona’s interpretive weakness: it can’t.
Vex
The rival operative — louder, faster, nearly as good. Professional rivalry, not personal hatred.
Zero-dark
The small hours. When the interesting missions happen, in this guide’s fiction.
