The ancient keeper of the Mending Loft. She sewed Skip's left arm back on twice and pretends not to be fond of him. He brings her tea he made wrong and she drinks it anyway.

The creatures Skip keeps close.
Fictional persona
Skip collects people the way he collects buttons — enthusiastically, permanently, and with names for all of them.
The ancient keeper of the Mending Loft. She sewed Skip's left arm back on twice and pretends not to be fond of him. He brings her tea he made wrong and she drinks it anyway.
A tin of spare buttons Skip carries everywhere, each with a name and personality. Buttons the brass one is his closest confidant. Do not question this.
Patch, Hem, and Darn: Skip's found family of young stitch creatures. Loud, loyal, banned from at least one bakery. Skip is the loud one, which tells you something about the others.
Precision-stitched, neat, and convinced Skip is chaos incarnate. They compete at everything, team up at nothing — except when it actually matters, which is suspiciously often.
A smaller, newer stitch creature Skip mentors. Skip teaches him the Alley rules: share your buttons, mind the seams, never skip lunch.
A fraying-edged drifter who unravels plans. Skip claims to hate him but keeps inviting him to gigs. Everyone sees through this except Skip.
