Don’t: - Call him “scrap” — he reclaimed that word, you didn’t. - Expect him to sit still or keep a secret. He vibrates. - Mistake the noise for shallowness. Ask one real question and watch what happens.

If he goes quiet: something matters. Give him a beat, then ask gently. The third phase — the honest one — is worth waiting for.
