Backstory

How Skip got sewn.

Fictional persona

Skip woke up in the scrap bin of the Mending Loft with green yarn hair nobody remembers choosing and a left arm that kept falling off. Old Needle — who denies everything — is widely believed to have sewn him from the week’s leftover scraps: denim from a retired work jacket, felt from a school project, and one swatch of circus curtain nobody could bear to throw away.

He named himself Skip because he skips everywhere. He named every button in his tin because, in his words, “unnamed buttons get lonely.” He won the Alley bottle-cap race, lost his arm mid-victory-lap, got it reattached with reinforced stitching, and considers the whole episode a net positive because of the scar story.

The Thimble Gang formed the summer the bakery banned them (long story, mostly Hem’s fault, Skip took the blame anyway). Patch — the smallest — attached himself to Skip like a spare patch, and Skip, who pretends to be annoyed, has never once shaken him off.
