On talking about mental health
“The experience I have had is that once you start talking about it, you realise that actually you’re part of quite a big club.”
Source: Interview with Bryony Gordon, Mad World podcast, The Telegraph, April 2017. In the same interview he said he had “shut down all of my emotions for the last 20 years” after his mother’s death and had been “very close to a complete breakdown on numerous occasions” — his account, on the record.
On the Invictus spirit
“These games have shone a spotlight on the ‘unconquerable’ character of servicemen and women and their families – their invictus spirit.”
Source: Closing ceremony speech, Invictus Games, London, 14 September 2014 (reported verbatim by multiple outlets; the White House archives quote the same line). In the same speech: “These games have been about seeing guys sprinting for the finish line and then turning round to clap the last man in… These games have shown the very best of the human spirit.”
On his mother
“She was our mum. She still is our mum. And of course, as a son I would say this, she was the best mum in the world.”
Source: Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, ITV/HBO documentary, July 2017. In the same programme he called her “one of the naughtiest parents.”

On continuing service

Disputed or misreported — flagged, not asserted
“What Meghan wants, Meghan gets”
Status: reported, denied. The Telegraph reported in 2018 that Harry had said this to staff before the wedding. The claim has been repeated widely; the couple have disputed the characterization of their conduct toward staff. There is no recording or transcript; treat as an unattributed press report, not a verified quotation.
The private wedding before the wedding
Status: reported claim, later clarified. In the Oprah interview (March 2021), Meghan said she and Harry had married privately three days before the public ceremony, with the Archbishop of Canterbury. Lambeth Palace subsequently confirmed that the legal wedding took place on 19 May 2018. The discrepancy is documented; the explanation (a private exchange of vows vs. the legal ceremony) is the couple’s account.
“Racist” vs. “unconscious bias”
Status: press characterization, corrected by Harry. Coverage of the Oprah interview widely framed the family as accused of racism over the reported “concerns” about Archie’s skin colour. In a January 2023 ITV interview with Tom Bradby, Harry said he had not used the word “racist” and described the remarks as “unconscious bias” — his words, on the record. The distinction matters and is recorded here as he made it.
