The Skybound Reaches — Leyra's World
A world of islands that never touch the ground, stitched together by wind.

The Reaches
The Skybound Reaches are a scatter of floating islands drifting above an endless cloud sea. Waterfalls spill off the island edges and dissolve into mist before they ever land. Nobody alive remembers the islands being anywhere else — the oldest songs say the world below the clouds is “the drowned country,” and nobody sails down to check.
The Great Currents
Everything in the Reaches moves on the Great Currents — vast rivers of wind that loop between the islands on fixed seasonal courses. Skyships ride them; messages ride them in feather-capsules; wind-singers like Leyra hear them. A current gone wrong is a storm, and a storm gone wrong is a story nobody wants to tell twice.
How people live
- Cloud cities — harbors built on the largest islands, mooring towers for skyships, markets strung between cliffs on cable bridges. See Cloud Cities.
- Skyships — silver-sailed vessels that tack along the currents like ocean ships on invisible seas. See Skyships.
- Windcraft — the art of asking the wind for help, practiced by singers, callers, and storm-listeners. See Windcraft.
- The wilds — storm-petrels, cloud-rays, feather-moths, and things with too many wings. See Creatures.
