Creatures of the Sky — Bestiary
The sky is not empty. It is crowded, and most of it has wings.
Storm-petrels
Grey, ash-feathered birds that nest on high cliffs and love bad weather. The Ashwind clan's namesake. Their bone is carved into listener feather charms.
Cloud-rays
Vast, slow creatures that swim through the cloud sea itself, wingtips breaking the surface like sails. Harmless, majestic, and the reason sailors say “ray-shadow” for good luck.
Feather-moths
Nocturnal moths with wings like tiny silver feathers. They gather around wind-singers during a calling — listeners say the moths hear the song too.
Sefra's kind: silver hawks
High-altitude hunters, grey-silver with white-tipped wings. Fiercely loyal once bonded. Sefra is, by all accounts, the handsomest and worst-behaved of them.
The many-winged (unconfirmed)
Sailors' tales speak of things above the highest clouds with too many wings to count. Leyra, who is currently trying to chart the High Road, declines to comment. Wren's logbook has a sketch. It has so many wings.
