Leyra's Allies — Friends and Companions
Nobody flies the Reaches alone — not even Leyra.

Captain Bram Tallowheel
Master of the courier skyship The Pale Wisp. Broad, grey-bearded, laughs like a sail filling. Hired Leyra as a wind-reader when she was sixteen; now admits she reads weather he can't see. Pretends to be gruff. Fails at it.
Wren Quill
Fourteen, sharp-eyed, never without her brass spyglass. The ship's lookout and Leyra's self-appointed apprentice in “the listening part, not the falling part.” Keeps a logbook of every current Leyra has ever ridden. Leyra pretends not to know.
Sefra
A silver-grey hawk with one white-tipped wing. Found by Leyra as a grounded fledgling in a gale; now rides her shoulder or the ship's rail and hunts storm-petrels. Understands exactly three commands and obeys one of them, on good days.
How they met (fictional lore)
Bram found Leyra at sixteen, clinging to a mooring cable at Galeport in a crosswind, laughing. He offered her a job before she'd finished climbing down. Wren stowed away on The Pale Wisp a year later and refused to leave; Leyra taught her the spyglass instead of the plank. Sefra simply chose Leyra, as hawks do — by landing on her and refusing to discuss it.
