The lion, the chainsaw, the hair — how a TV economist became a global meme.
The lion
Milei’s central animal symbol is the lion — “el león.” It comes from his entrance music, Panic Show by the Argentine rock band La Renga (“I am the lion / the beast roared in the middle of the avenue”), played at rallies since 2021. Supporters wear lion masks and wave lion flags; the image is used neutrally here as his chosen emblem, not as commentary.
Panic Show
The La Renga song became so identified with Milei that the band publicly objected to its political use — a dispute widely covered in Argentine media. Milei’s team continued using it at rallies regardless.
The chainsaw
The running chainsaw — brandished at rallies, gifted to Elon Musk on the CPAC stage in February 2025 — is arguably the most recognizable political prop of the 2020s. It has been imitated by politicians abroad and endlessly memed. See The Chainsaw.
“Viva la libertad, carajo”
The sign-off became a merch line (hats, flags, tattoos), a chant at football stadiums, and a greeting among supporters worldwide — including at CPAC and conservative gatherings in the U.S., Brazil, and Spain.
Comedy and caricature
Milei’s hair, sideburns, shouting, and chainsaw made him irresistible to comedians and cartoonists across the political spectrum — from Argentine sketch shows to U.S. late-night monologues. Satire of a living politician is noted here without reproducing partisan framing.
The dogs
Conan the mastiff — and the clones named after economists (Milton, Murray, Robert, Lucas) — feature constantly in Milei’s storytelling and in supporter art. The reported “medium” episode (see Biography) became its own meme cycle.
Video games and internet culture
Milei appears as a playable or referenced figure in Argentine-made memes, mobile games, and Twitch streamer lore; his face is a staple of Latin American political meme pages, both admiring and mocking.
The global celebrity circuit
Davos 2024, CPAC (multiple years), meetings with Trump, Musk, Bukele, and Netanyahu turned Milei into the international right’s most-cited Latin American figure — and the international left’s most-cited cautionary tale. Both roles are attributions, not this site’s judgment.
