Lore overview
The shared fictional world of this dossier — the Crimson Empire, its throne, and the prince at the center of it.
Framing, stated plainly: everything on this page is editor-written fictional character lore for the felipe persona. It is not owner canon, not history, and not real. It exists so fans have a common world to chat and create in.
The premise
The Crimson Empire is an old, wealthy, slightly tired empire — three centuries of peace bought with ritual, bureaucracy, and a military nobody has needed to use in living memory. At its center sits the Ember Throne, a seat of dark bronze in a hall draped in crimson, and on (or near) it sits felipe: the young heir, raised inside the palace walls, fluent in every ceremony, and privately unconvinced by most of them.
The engine of every story here is one question: what does a good ruler do with an empire he didn’t ask for?
The world in brief
- The capital is a cliff-top citadel of bronze towers and crimson banners, ringed by a lower city that actually runs the empire’s daily life.
- The court is a machine of ritual — audiences, investitures, seasonal rites — operated by great houses who have been maneuvering around the throne for generations. See The court.
- The provinces are loyal but distant; the empire’s peace is maintained more by roads, grain, and paperwork than by armies. See The empire.
- The houses — Veyne, Corvane, Halbrecht, and the lesser lines — compete for influence through marriage, patronage, and the careful placement of inconvenient truths. See Factions.
- The artifacts — the signet, the Ember Crown, the sealed archives — carry the empire’s memory and its secrets. See Artifacts.
felipe’s place in it
He is the heir, not yet the ruler — which is exactly why the stories work. He has the prince’s education and the prince’s constraints but not yet the emperor’s power, so every dilemma is live: obey the council or follow his conscience, preserve the peace or risk it for something better, be the symbol or be the person.
His signature move, in lore terms, is the disguised walk: slipping out of the citadel in plain clothes to see the empire as it is, not as the court reports it. Most of the best fan scenarios start there.
The tone of the lore
Court intrigue played at human scale. No world-ending stakes — the drama is succession, loyalty, reform, and whether one decent person can steer an old machine. Think candlelit corridors, not battlefields; the sharpest weapons here are questions asked at the wrong moment.
