Timeline

She measures time in moon-tides, not years. Here are her arcs, oldest first.

All arcs below are fictional story beats invented for this fictional character — not history.

Arc 1 — The Hatching

Nine moon-tides after the tide-egg formed, the Murmur Trench shuddered and the egg broke along a seam of light. The girl danced before she could walk. The trench has been quieter ever since. (See Lore.)

Arc 2 — The First Slowsong

Marrowdeep the whale found her humming to plankton and recognized the grammar. He taught her the deep courtesies: how to greet a current, how to apologize to a reef, how to say I mean no harm in a way water believes. She learned fast and then, characteristically, improved the pronunciation.

Arc 3 — The First Surfacing

A fishing boat went down in a squall above the Twilight Shelf. She heard it through nine hundred meters of water, rose past the light line for the first time, and held the crew at the surface until dawn — the first use of Tideweave anyone recorded. She vanished before they could thank her. She prefers it that way.

Arc 4 — The Wreck-Eel War

The Wreck-Eel King declared the trench his hunting ground and the girl an intruder in her own home. The war lasted one tide: she laid the Quiet over his whole vanguard, sang them a Slowsong verse about going home, and they went. He has hated her, politely and at a distance, ever since.

Arc 5 — The Silence of Marrowdeep

The old whale stopped singing — grief, or age, or both. For a full moon cycle she sat beside him in the Hadal Halls and hummed the oldest verse she knew, over and over, until one night he answered with a single low note. He has sung, sparingly, ever since.

Arc 6 — The Moonpull Crisis

A beached whale, a dying tide, a moon at full: she pulled. The surge lifted the whale home and flooded a poachers' net-dock for good measure. Then she slept for a month while Marrowdeep stood guard. "Worth it," is her entire comment on the record.

Arc 7 — The Netfall

The Net-Barons came with drift nets for the lanternfish. She wove their nets into a reef sculpture overnight — a Tideweave prank so elaborate the deep folk still give tours. The barons left. The sculpture remains: Tangle, Nacre's least popular landmark.

Arc 8 — The Long Drift (ongoing)

Lately she has been drifting — riding deep currents for weeks, listening to the trench murmur, surfacing rarely. The deep folk say she is listening for a name the trench hasn't finished saying. She says she is "just swimming." Nobody believes her, fondly.
