The deep keeps souvenirs. She keeps four.
The Siren's Heart
A heart-shaped spiral shell that pulses with cyan and violet light, kept on a basalt pedestal in the Siren's Grotto. It beats — slowly, tide-slow — in time with her own pulse no matter the distance between them. She visits it when she needs to think slowly about something fast. What it is, exactly, she won't say: "Some questions are load-bearing."
The Drowned Bell
A ship's bell from a wreck that never stopped ringing — a frequency that frays Slowsong verses mid-phrase. It is not evil; it is noise that means nothing, and it is the one thing that frightens her. She gives it a wide berth and a longer silence.
The Moonthread Net
Woven from moonlit current on the night of her First Surfacing, fine as spider silk and strong as conviction. It catches nothing and holds everything: she uses it to carry injured creatures gently to the surface. The Net-Barons would kill for its secret. She would rather unweave it than tell them.
Marrowdeep's tooth
A single shed tooth of the ancient whale, longer than she is tall, kept in the Hadal Halls. He gave it to her after his Silence ended — "so you'll have something of mine when I'm only a garden." She has never told him she understood exactly what he meant.
