Methodology
The rules this site follows — so you can check its work.
1. Neutrality for a living person
Jeff Bezos is alive and active. This site applies encyclopedia rules:
- Facts with dates. Every significant claim carries a date or is traceable to a dated source.
- No endorsement, no attack. Achievements are reported; criticisms are reported; neither is editorialized. Adjectives of praise or blame don’t appear in the site’s own voice.
- Disputes are flagged, not settled. Where good-faith disagreement exists (taxes, labor, the SpaceX rivalry’s rhetoric), the page states each side’s position with attribution and moves on.
- Private life stays private. Family and relationships appear only through the public record.
2. Quote policy
- A quotation appears as Bezos’s words only with a traceable primary source: a shareholder letter, a published address, a recorded interview.
- Lines that are widely attributed but lack a located primary source are labeled “widely attributed” — never presented as verified.
- Lines with no source at all go in the misattributed section of Sayings, so readers stop repeating them.
- Paraphrase is never presented as quotation.
3. Dating and uncertainty
- Months and days appear only where documented; otherwise the year stands alone.
- Where sources disagree (e.g., the D.E. Shaw start year), the disagreement is stated inline.
- Net worth is never stated as a standing fact. Wealth figures are always attributed to Forbes or Bloomberg with a date, because they move with the share price.
4. Image honesty
- Biographical content uses real photographs only — freely licensed (public domain or Creative Commons) images from Wikimedia Commons, each recorded in the image credits on this page with source, license, author, and date, and attributed in captions.
- No AI-generated imagery of Jeff Bezos or any real person appears anywhere on this site.
- Generated imagery is used only for: (a) the Vizlings character dramatization (the animated stream character — always labeled “AI-generated dramatization art — not a historical depiction”), (b) abstract/conceptual illustrations (labeled as illustrations), and (c) the social pack (labeled per image).
5. The dramatized character
The Stream, Meet the Character, and Social Pack pages document a separate creative project: an animated, dramatized Bezos character from the owner’s Vizlings app. The character is fiction inspired by the person, labeled as dramatization everywhere it appears; the reference pages are the authority on the real history. The owner’s original character sheet is a private style reference and is not displayed.
6. Corrections
This is a static reference. Where the record changes (lawsuits resolve, companies report), pages are updated with new dated entries rather than rewritten silently. Known gaps are listed in each page’s Limitations section.
Source notes
- Policy page; the evidence for individual claims lives in the per-page Source notes.
- Quote-verification examples: see sayings.md (verified vs. misattributed sections).
Limitations
- “Neutral” is an aspiration with a method, not a guarantee of universal agreement; the method is published here so readers can audit it.
