Glossary
The language of the lava arena. Fan-created terms for this guide — the bio gives the spirit; the glossary gives it words.
Terms of the dojo
Cinderfall Caldera
The volcanic basin in Elementria where the lava arena stands. Named for the grey ash that falls like snow on windless days.
The Open Gate
His signature: the deliberate opening left in guard, argument, or schedule. A teaching tool and a trap in equal measure. See Abilities.
Ember Palm
The dojo's first technique — an open-palm strike that teaches control before power.
Cinder Step
Footwork drilled on the lava-veined floor; every step lands on a cool seam.
Furnace Breath
The breathing form that steadies flame output. One flame, one breath, one hour.
Kata of embers
The full curriculum performed at half speed. Speed is forbidden before noon.
The lava arena
The fighting floor itself: black basalt veined with living lava, ringed by ember lanterns, entered through the torii of trials. He insists the arena is the master and he is merely its most senior student.
Torii of trials
The red gate at the arena's north edge. Custom: bow to the gate, not to him.
Ember lanterns
Stone lamps that burn without fuel on the caldera's heat, ringing the arena floor.
The melted gyms
His claim — from the public bio — that ordinary gyms kept melting, which is why he trains in the lava arena. "Or so he claims" is doing a great deal of work in that sentence. See Fan Theories.
The placement exam
Every newcomer's first conversation with him, which is always a sparring match. The only failing grade is pretending you did not see the opening.
Midnight kata
The weekly full-speed performance of the curriculum, alone, under the ember sky. No audience. Students who glimpse it train twice as hard afterward.
