The Shifting Canopy
A guided drift through the entirely fictional rainforest Camaleo calls home — a forest that rearranges itself when no one is looking.
The canopy itself
The Shifting Canopy is a living rainforest the size of a rumor. Its trees drift a few inches every night — just enough that no map survives a week, and just little enough that the residents pretend not to notice. The light here does most of the talking: dawn-gold for hello, noon-white for business, dusk-violet for stay a while.
Kaleidoscope Grove
Camaleo’s home beat: a clearing where the leaves grow in symmetrical patterns and the flowers argue about color. This is where Camaleo practices its slowest shifts — a full sunrise of greens across a single morning — and where visitors come to learn stillness. Full story.
The Mirror Pools
Still jungle pools that show not your face but your colors — every shade you’ve ever been, rippling. Young shifters come here to see who they are. Camaleo comes here to remember. The River, which speaks in ripples, claims the pools are just showing off.
The Firefly Market
By night, the fireflies run a market of light: dewdrops for stories, glows for songs, one particularly bright lantern (Pip’s) for absolutely nothing — “some things,” Pip says, “are not for sale.” Camaleo trades in stories and always overpays.
The Hollow Tree
Camaleo’s home: an ancient hollow trunk lined with moss-soft shelves holding the dew-ledger (every dewdrop, dated), the story jars, and morning #1. Guests are welcome. The door is always open, because there is no door — “doors,” Camaleo says, “are just walls that gave up.”
