Macaronis Geography
A deep dive into the map of the Macaronis world.
The lay of the land
The Macaronis world centers on Al Dente, a coastal capital built where the wheatlands meet the sea. The city climbs from the Sourdough Docks up through the neighborhoods to Penne Heights, with Jerkwater Beach curling along the southern shore.
Districts of Al Dente
The Harlem Quarter (Willie's territory)
The cultural heart: jazz clubs, soul-food kitchens, brownstone loaves. The Golden Grain Club anchors Lenox & 125th-ish (locals just say "the corner"). Streetlamps here burn purple and gold — the city made it official after Willie's third sold-out anniversary.
Penne Heights
Tube-shaped tenements, the grand station, the city's best people-watching. Newcomers land here; the welcome committee is whoever happens to be on the stoop.
Fusilli Flats
Spiral streets that confuse every visitor and delight every resident. Murals everywhere. The rent is cheap and the inspiration is free.
Rigatoni Row
Theater marquees, velvet ropes, opening nights. The tubes here project.
The Sourdough Docks
Flour barges, ferry horns, gulls shaped like tiny farfalle. The wheat fields begin where the docks end — Willie's childhood horizon.
Jerkwater Beach
Boardwalk, skate rink, sound-system corners. Rasta Pasta's domain, and the city's collective exhale.
The Rolling Pin District
Chrome diners and drive-ins along the delivery corridors. Dash knows every shortcut; the pigeons know Dash.
Beyond the city
- The Durum Wheatlands — rolling gold for miles; Willie's birthplace.
- Lake Al Dente — the great freshwater pot to the north; sailing, fishing, sunset cruises.
- The Grater Mountains — snowy peaks to the east; the source of the city's parmesan snow (a local delicacy and a meteorological mystery).
- Orzo Isles — tiny islands offshore; each one barely bigger than its name suggests.
Getting around
The Fusilli Line subway loops the city in a spiral (of course). Above ground: DashDash Couriers for packages, the Starchlight Trolley for tourists, and — Willie's preference — walking, slowly, so everyone can see the jacket.
