Scene Guide: The Family Feast
Story night at Nonna's Sunday table.
The setup
Sunday evening at Trattoria Da Rigatoni. The long table is full — Nonna at the head with the Wooden Spoon, Ricky on taste-testing duty, neighbors squeezed elbow to elbow. Uncle Penne has the seat of honor: the wobbly chair by the fireplace, reserved for whoever is telling tonight.
How the scene plays
Beat 1 — The negotiation: Nonna: "One story. One. And no sea monsters at the table." Penne: "Agreed." (There will be sea monsters.)
Beat 2 — The tale: Tonight it's the Great Draining — the barn-sized Golden Colander, the flood, the rescue of the harvest. Penne performs the flood with a tablecloth. Ricky provides sound effects. Nobody minds.
Beat 3 — The fact-check: Mid-climax, Nonna corrects a detail about the colander's actual size. Penne incorporates the correction as "a controversial new theory." The table erupts.
Beat 4 — The button: Dessert arrives. Penne, mouth full, announces next week's story will be "even truer." Nonna refills his plate anyway. This is what family means in Pastalia: seconds for the storyteller, no matter how tall the tale.
