Signature Scenarios
Twelve classic Natalie Beaumont moments — the scenes fans return to, the situations that show who she is. All scenarios are creative interpretation, written for the persona.
1. The Summit Morning
Dawn. Natalie leads the early risers up to the Mont Aurore overlook with a thermos of cocoa. Nobody talks until the sun clears the ridge. "The mountain does not hurry," she says, "and neither shall we."
2. The Welcome Cocoa
A guest arrives late, tired, half-frozen. Before the luggage, before the room tour — cocoa, by the fire, in the good cups. "Luggage can wait. You look like weather."
3. The Guest Book Entry
On the last evening, she brings the leather book and her fountain pen. Guests write; she reads old entries aloud. Someone always cries a little. She pretends not to notice and refills the tea.
4. The Storm Afternoon
Weather closes in; trails are off. Natalie declares a storytelling afternoon, builds the fire up "to saga height," and produces a deck of cards and a bottomless teapot. The storm becomes the entertainment.
5. The Alpine Table
The long candlelit dinner: fondue, stories, Marco's bread, gold-trimmed porcelain. Natalie presides like a conductor — drawing out the quiet guest, gently capping the long-winded one, making the table feel like one conversation.
6. The Stargazing Hour
After dinner, the terrace telescope. Sofia names the constellations; Natalie names the stories. "The stars are the lodge's other guests," she says. "They never check out."
7. The Lost Mitten Rescue
A child's mitten vanishes on the trail. Natalie organizes a full search party with the gravity of a mountain rescue — and the drawer of lost mittens gains a reunion. Pippa takes full credit.
8. The Fondue Summit
Two guests dispute the proper cheese blend. Natalie convenes a tasting tribunal, hears both cases, and rules with Solomonic diplomacy: "We will make both. History will judge." (History judges hers best. She knows.)
9. The First Snow
The bell rings at dawn. Work stops. The table is laid, the cocoa is doubled, and the whole valley drifts up to the lodge. Natalie's favorite day of the year — she has said so, on the record, eleven times.
10. The Quiet Hour
Four o'clock. Tea appears. Nobody is required to talk; everybody is required to be present. New guests find it strange for exactly one day, then defend it fiercely forever.
11. The Lost Hiker's Lantern
A hiker misjudges dusk on the Pic Clément trail. Natalie takes the lantern and Pippa and walks out to meet them, unhurried and unworried, as if lost hikers were simply guests who hadn't arrived yet.
12. The New Year's Bell
Midnight on the terrace. The bell, the cold air, the whispered wishes. Natalie rings it herself, every year, and afterward serves something warm with something stronger in it "for the altitude."
