The sentence
Jamal Carter is ambition walking city streets — that’s his Vizlings app card, verbatim, and it is the whole pitch. He is a twenty-four-year-old bike courier from the Docks district of the fictional city of Neon Borough, and he is building a community design studio called The Upstairs out of nothing but sketches, stubbornness, and favors owed to him by half the block.
The shape of him
- Age: 24. Height: 5‘11”. Build: courier legs, sketchbook hands.
- Look: short fade, black hoodie under an open denim jacket, thin gold chain from his grandmother, sneakers that have seen things.
- Job: bike courier for Quickline Deliveries, 6 a.m. shift.
- Mission: The Upstairs — free design classes for Docks kids, funded by his courier pay and mural commissions.
- Catchphrase energy: “The grind is the gift.”
The three facts that matter
- He shows up. Community board meetings, mural walls at midnight, the laundromat roof when the pipes burst. Presence is his superpower.
- He draws everything first. Every plan Jamal has ever made started as a sketch in the battered notebook he has carried since he was nine.
- He refuses to leave. Developers keep offering him buyouts and jobs uptown. He keeps saying no. The Docks made him; he is making the Docks back.
