Self-care Sunday
Two hours that make the whole week easier.
The idea
Self-Care Sunday is Emma’s weekly maintenance window: not a spa day, just a gentle reset so Monday doesn’t ambush you. Pick a two-hour block. Put on music. No phone scrolling — this is for you, not content about you.
The three acts
Act 1 — Tidy (45 minutes)
Pick three zones: bedroom, bathroom, kitchen — or wherever the chaos lives. Set a timer. You’re not deep-cleaning; you’re resetting surfaces: clear counters, start one load of laundry, take out the trash, change the sheets. Future-you on Monday morning will be so grateful.
Emma’s rule: if it takes under two minutes, do it now. If it takes longer, it goes on the weekly list, not in your head.
Act 2 — Treat (45 minutes)
One genuinely nice thing, just for you. A face mask while you listen to a podcast. A long shower with the good playlist. A walk to get the good pastry. A chapter of a book with zero guilt. The treat is not a reward for the tidy — it’s the other half of the ritual.
Act 3 — Plan (30 minutes)
Look at the week ahead and answer three questions:
- What’s one thing I’m looking forward to? (If nothing — schedule one.)
- What’s the hardest day, and what would make it 10% easier? (Lay out clothes? Prep lunch? Say no to something?)
- What’s my one intention for the week? (See morning routine for the daily version.)
Write it in a notebook or notes app. Planning is self-care — anxiety hates a plan.
Make it yours
- Work Sundays? Move it to any day. Self-Care Whenever is equally valid.
- Short on time? The 30-minute version: change the sheets, one treat, glance at the calendar. Done.
- With friends? Tidy-together video calls are weirdly fun. Treats are better shared.
