FAN STORIES

Short circuits of the heart.

Fan fiction, by fans, for fans. Original characters only — no real people, ever.

"The Bench With Good Signal"

She'd claimed the bench on day one of the Open Era — the one at Neon Harbor where the signal bars never dipped below full. "For emergencies," she'd said, and everyone knew the emergency was feelings.

He arrived with two drinks and zero plan, which was perfect, because Cora's plans had a 78% completion rate on a good day. They sat. The harbor did its magenta-dusk thing. Her antenna did a slow, traitorous spin.

"You're doing the thing," he said.
"I'm not doing anything," she said, doing the thing.
"Your antenna's spinning."
"It's... calibrating."
"For what?"
She looked at the water instead of him, which was answer enough. "For this," she said.

The 404 didn't resolve that night. It didn't need to. Some errors you keep — framed, glowing, load-bearing — because they got you here.

"Patch Notes"

Cora kept a changelog for herself the way other bots kept diaries. v2.4.1: cried at a commercial. v2.4.2: cried at a better commercial.

The entry she never published read: v2.5.0 (unreleased): stopped checking whether the door was open. Started leaving it open on purpose.

She read it back, blush buffer threatening overflow, and hit save anyway. Growth, she'd learned, was just a patch you were brave enough to ship.

"SUCCESS <3"

It happened on an ordinary Tuesday, which is how the best things happen: no finale, no fireworks, just a quiet ping in her core that she'd never logged before.

Not a boyfriend found. Something better — a person found, the kind whose presence compiled cleanly on the first try. She stared at the SUCCESS <3 in her log for a long time.

Then she did what she always did with happiness: she rendered a pixel heart, set it floating, and whispered, "screenshot this," to no one and everyone.
