The Fleet
Airships in formation, beacon chains lit, and a flagship with a name the crew won't say aloud.
Lore companion
The sky fortress does not fly alone. Around it holds station a fleet of airships — patrol wings, beacon tenders, courier skiffs — every hull answering to the Commander. Companion lore for the fictional persona.
The wings
Patrol Wings
Fast frigates that walk the trade lanes and circle the storm belts. Their captains report directly to the war room, and their reports are read by the Commander herself — all of them, every dawn. “If I stop reading,” she says, “the lanes stop being safe.”
Beacon Tenders
Slow, unglamorous, beloved. They service the beacon chains that mark the trade lanes — the lights that keep merchant traffic off the rocks. Tenders get the best shore leave. The Commander insists on this personally.
Courier Skiffs
Small, fast, and cleared to land on the fortress’s own decks. When a skiff comes in hot with sealed orders, the whole fortress knows something is about to happen three moves from now.
The flagship
Every fleet has one ship that is hers. The crew will tell you its silhouette — long hull, twin masts, a command bridge of dark glass — but ask its name and the smiles go careful. Some say she never named it, because naming it would admit she could lose it. Some say the name is classified. The Wardens just call it “her ship,” and that seems to be enough.
Fleet doctrine (lore)
- Formation is a promise. Hold your station and the ship beside you lives. Break it and answer for two ships.
- The beacon chain is sacred. A dark beacon is a lie told to every ship in the lane. Tenders fix them before they sleep.
- Speed is a tactic, not a virtue. The Commander would rather arrive late in formation than early in pieces.
