Bernie Sanders

An Independent senator from Vermont, former mayor of Burlington, two-time Democratic presidential candidate, and one of the most recognizable figures in American politics — presented here as a neutral, cited reference.

Welcome to Digital Bernie, a reference guide to the life and career of Bernard “Bernie” Sanders, the long-serving Independent senator from Vermont. This site is written in a neutral encyclopedia tone: facts are cited, quotations are verbatim with their venue and date, policy positions are presented as Sanders’s own stated positions, and criticism is attributed to its sources rather than asserted by the site itself.

As of September 2026, Sanders is serving his fourth term in the U.S. Senate (a term that runs through January 2031). In the 119th Congress he serves as the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) and as a member of the Senate Finance Committee.

Where to begin

The person in brief

A note on tone

Bernie Sanders is a living public figure, and this site treats him the way an encyclopedia would: no partisan framing, no endorsement, and no attack language. Where the record is disputed, the site says so. Where a claim is reported but unconfirmed, it is flagged as such. Every page ends with source notes, and the sources and methodology pages explain how this site decides what counts as a fact.

Source notes

Factual claims on this page are drawn from official Senate sources (sanders.senate.gov and the HELP Committee’s 119th Congress announcements), the U.S. Senate press package biography, and reputable news reporting on the 2024 Senate election. Full citations appear on the sources page and in the detailed pages linked above.
