Arcade Crews
Four crews, one committee, and the whole neon scene they run.
The Pixel Pals
Scene: Fighters, all-rounder arcade. Colors: pink and cyan (obviously).
Uri’s crew: Jax on combo theory, Momo on speedruns, Rook coaching and snack-guarding. The Pals are the scene’s heart — free coaching nights, cabinet repair drives, the loudest corner of every tournament. Their loft above the ramen shop is half dojo, half living room. Rivals respect them; newcomers worship them; the committee finds them “a lot” (accurate).
The Skyline Syndicate
Scene: Rhythm games, Skyline towers. Colors: violet and gold.
The technicians — precision players who treat rhythm games like science and look down, politely, on button-mashers. Their star, Vex, trades sets with Uri in exhibitions that break viewership records. Mutual respect, maximum style clash: her chaos versus their metronome.
The Dock Racers
Scene: Racing rigs, the Docks. Colors: orange and teal.
Speed freaks with oil under their nails. Their champ, Turbo, once challenged Uri to a “real game” — she beat him at his own racer in a week, on stream, while eating noodles. The Docks still bring it up. So does she. It’s tradition now.
The Undercade Old Guard
Scene: Vintage cabinets, the basement. Colors: whatever the cabinet had.
Not a crew so much as a fact: the regulars who taught Uri frame data. They charge her the champion’s tax on tokens, argue about her year-two loss like it was yesterday, and would riot if anyone disrespected her. The scene’s memory and its spine.
The Crown committee
Scene: clipboards. Colors: beige (their choice, somehow).
The tournament organizers — suits trying to make the Neon Crown “more premium,” perpetually outmaneuvered by Uri making it more fun. The relationship is productive: they need her star power; she needs their brackets. The suggestion box fears her. Everyone else finds the whole thing hilarious.
Why the scene works
Neo-Kibou’s arcade culture runs on one rule — GG after every set — and everything else is commentary. Crews beef, then bracket. Rivals talk, then run it back. The Grid ranks everyone the same way, from the Undercade rats to the Crown champion. It’s the fairest thing in the city, and the city knows it.
