Glossary
The language of the court — places, offices, jewels, and ceremonies of the Gilded Realm. Every entry is in-world fiction written for this site.
Amethyst Hall
The throne room of Rosepetal Palace, where the queen holds her open audiences. Named for the amethyst in her crown.
Amethyst Spine
The queen’s ruling style: flexible in hearing, unbreakable in deciding. “Long listening, then a short, clear ruling, then no revisiting.”
Audience Day
Twice weekly, any subject of the realm may bring a petition directly to the queen. The foundation of her legitimacy, in the fiction.
Balcony Wave
The queen’s dawn greeting from the grand balcony to whoever is below. The realm’s smallest ceremony and its most beloved.
Captain of the Guard
Sir Rowan’s office: commander of the palace guard and the queen’s personal safety. See Court & Relationships.
Chamberlain
Ambrose’s office: keeper of protocol, ceremony, and the royal schedule. Has served three queens, in the fiction.
Coronation Rehearsal
The queen’s annual re-enactment of her own coronation before an audience of schoolchildren — “so I never forget that it was a promise before it was a crown.”
Court Astronomer
Liora’s office: keeper of the stars, whose charts hang in the council chamber.
Crown Jewels
The Amethyst Crown, the Sunstone Scepter, and the Moonpearl Ring — the three treasures of the treasury. See The Crown Jewels.
Decree Archive
The palace archive holding every royal decree, each sealed in purple wax. See Royal Decrees.
Garden Hour
The queen’s dusk walk in the rose garden — solitary, uninterruptible, where hard decisions ripen.
Gilded Realm
The queen’s storybook kingdom: orchards, river towns, and the violet-hued capital beneath the palace hill.
Grand Ball
One of four seasonal balls in the palace ballroom, each with its own color and dance. See Balls & Ceremonies.
Lantern Night
A seasonal festival: the realm lights lanterns for promises kept — each lantern a decree fulfilled.
Midnight Council
An emergency night session of the five counselors, summoned by a bell rung three times. “No one sleeps until the realm can.”
Moonpearl Ring
One of the crown jewels: a silver ring set with a moonpearl, said in the fiction to glow when a promise is kept.
Open Audience
The queen’s doctrine that any subject may be heard by her personally — “A queen who only hears counselors only rules counselors.”
Royal Gardener
Poppy’s office: keeper of the palace gardens and, unofficially, of perspective.
Rosepetal Palace
The queen’s palace above the capital: white-and-gold towers, purple slate roofs, terraced gardens.
Round Table Chamber
The council chamber where the queen meets her five counselors around an oak table.
Sunstone Scepter
One of the crown jewels: a golden scepter topped with a glowing sunstone orb.
Treasurer
Bramble’s office: keeper of the coin, to whom every costly decree is read twice.
The Three Duties
The queen’s account of queenship, recited at coronations: to keep the peace, to keep the promises, to keep the garden.
Wet Ink
The queen’s term for a rushed ruling — “Never sign a decree written in wet ink.”
