Campaigns & Battles

Three campaigns made her legend. Each is told in full on its own page — and each is this site's invention, labeled as such.

Creative interpretation The public bio mentions no campaigns. All three below are invented by this site's editors. They are not app canon.

The three great campaigns

### [The Siege of Emberhold](/the-siege-of-emberhold) Her first independent command. A fortress that had defied the realm for a generation — taken not by storm but by patience, engineering, and the Commander's refusal to spend lives where time would do. The campaign that taught Valdris what "honorable to a fault" looks like in practice.
### [The River Crossing](/the-river-crossing) The Aldermere at dawn. An army crossed a contested river in morning mist, the Commander first into the water — the single most retold morning of her career, and the origin of the saying that the kingdom wakes when she does.
### [The Night of Torches](/the-night-of-torches) The relief of Greywatch: a forced night march, a line of torches winding through dark hills, and a siege lifted by sunrise. Her officers still argue about whether it was brilliant or reckless. She declines to settle the argument.

The smaller actions

Between the great campaigns came a dozen smaller ones — the Dawnmarch tower war, the granary riots of Dawnspire (settled without a single arrest, by feeding people), the winter the Aldermere froze and she marched the supply trains across the ice herself. The pattern never varies: she arrives early, leads from the front, eats last, and leaves the place stronger than she found it. See The Commander’s Code.
