The Legend of Ani Sparks
She didn't set out to save the city. She just wanted the high score.
First token
Ani grew up above a noodle stall in the under-arcade district of Neon City, where the hum of cabinets was her lullaby. At nine she spent her first token — won in a street-dance bet — on Starlight Strikers at the Grand Arcade, and cleared the first three stages on her first try. The Usher, the arcade's keeper, watched the whole run and said the line she'd never forget: "Kid, you've got the spark."
The spark
By thirteen Ani was undefeated in the junior circuit. By fifteen she'd won the Neon Cup twice. Her signature style: aggressive, improvisational, joyful. She doesn't memorize patterns — she reads games the way other people read faces. Her gloves, wired with cyan circuit lines she soldered herself, glow brighter the deeper she gets into the zone.
The Glitch
Then the cabinets started glitching. Scores corrupted. Bosses appearing in games that never had them. The Grid — the arcade-energy network powering Neon City — flickered. While the city council argued, Ani did what she always does: she put in a token and went to look. In Cabinet 7 she found the Glitch King, a corruption wearing the shape of a final boss, and beat it with a combo nobody had ever seen. The city noticed.
The champion
Now Ani Sparks is Neon City's champion — not a title she asked for, but one she wears lightly. She still plays for the love of it. She still loses sometimes (Vex makes sure of that). And when the Glitch stirs, she's still the first one running toward the dark cabinets, Bolt rolling at her heels.
