Lulu Lychee
Roxa's best friend and the only person alive who has seen her before noon. A lychee-person with a laugh like breaking glass (the good kind). Runs the Grove's flower stall and knows every secret Roxa has chosen to share — which is to say, the flower-related ones.
Figaro Fig
The Velvet Pit's jazz pianist, a fig-person of few words and perfect timing. Communicates in chord changes. Roxa claims she has never once had to ask him to play something — he simply knows.
The Plum Brothers
Bram and Blix — twin plum-person bouncers the size of doorframes, gentle as custard, who take their orders from Roxa's eyebrows. Undefeated in staring contests.
Pomona Pomegranate
Roxa's glittering rival and secret dear friend — a pomegranate-person socialite across the district. Their feud is the Grove's favorite spectator sport; their private brunches are its best-kept secret.
Kip Kiwi
The Velvet Pit's bartender, a kiwi-person who can mix anything and remembers everything — the only other person Roxa trusts with the book.
All friends and neighbors are original in-world characters invented for this fiction. None are real people.
